English for Academic Purposes

EAP is specifically designed to prepare international students for their continuing tertiary studies. Whether it is for entry into a Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor course, EAP will give you the necessary English language skills to succeed in your chosen area of study.

EAP provides three modules of study. Students may study each module exclusively, or move between the modules according to their needs.

Intensive IELTS Module:

This module is for students who need to improve their IELT score quickly. It includes a whole day dedicated to IELTS practice tests and reviews, so students know exactly what is required of them in the exam and will be well prepared. The module also includes classes that will help students when they go to university.

Academic Module:

This module is designed to improve students ability to succeed in an academic environment. Presentation skills, essay writing, and comprehensive listening tasks, all give MLC students the best advantage when they go on to study at an Australian University.

Pathway to your future

MLC has many established pathways into the tertiary education sector, including Universities, TAFEs and private institutes. EAP graduates are able to meet the English language entry requirements for Certificate, Diploma, Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses – in many cases without further need for language proficiency testing.

English For Health Professionals

This program will be of significant benefit to overseas health professionals wishing to improve their English language skills and gain advanced specialist instruction and experience in a range of fields. We also provide a specialist course designed to prepare students for the Occupational English Test (OET).

Occupational English Test (OET) Preparation Course

The Occupational English Test (OET) for overseas health professionals assesses the English language skills of all health professionals wishing to study in, migrate to and work in Australia. It assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. People wishing to work in Australia in any area of medicine or healthcare, including veterinary work, are required to take the OET and can benefit from the OET preparation course.

In order to help you prepare for the important OET test, Melbourne Language Centre offers the OET Preparation program. This provides students with a thorough knowledge of English in a medical context and medical terminology, and pays specific attention to the language skills needed by Healthcare professionals. The OET Preparation Course is for students who:

Wish to sit the OET as part of the process of becoming registered to practice in Australia
