The Diploma of Community Welfare Work aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and values required to perform competently as professional Social Welfare Workers. This group of professionals are expected to work in a variety of settings in the Social and Community Services (SACS) industry. The course structure is designed to ensure a balance between theory and practice in social welfare work and to provide classroom and community-based learning environments.
The Practical Placement component of the course provides students with the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge within the work environment and be assessed to industry standards. The Practical Placement experience is facilitated by experienced fieldwork supervisors who provide guidance and mentoring so students can learn to apply relevant skills, knowledge and attitudes that are necessary to work within the community and social welfare fields. Practical Placement takes place in a real life work setting, not on campus grounds.
